Step 1: Getting Started, Get to Know Kidsbridge
About your visit
It is recommended that your visit be for a total of 3-4 hours. Your visit will consist of several components. First, to assess learning in the Museum, a pre-survey is is administered to students. Next, small group discussions in the Tolerance Museum exhibits are led by trained college students or retired teachers, including extra activities like puppet making, skit preparation and puppet shows. Occasionally, we are able to bring in a college student with a disability to talk about the challenges that their disability has created. Lunch will follow. The “Aspiration to College” campus tour is provided upon request. In addition to the tour, a panel of college students will answer questions about their experiences with work, studies, and fun at The College of New Jersey. Finally, a post-assessment will be administered to evaluate learning. An approximate schedule detailing the exact times for each component of your visit is included in the teacher's program guide. It is our hope that this visit will help your students to realize the importance of anti-bullying, victim empowerment, upstander behavior, cultural diversity, kid heroes, community service and tolerance. If you have any questions or concerns about your visit, please do not hesitate to contact us. | Schedule of Events*9:00 – 9:30 am: Buses arrive on TCNJ campus 9:30 am - 9:45 am: Pre-survey -assessment 9:45 am - 11:30 am: Museum Exhibit exploration 11:30 am - 12:15 pm: Scheduled Activities 12:15 am - 1:00 pm: Lunch and activities 1:00 PM- 1:15 pm: Post survey –assessment 1:15: Culmination exercise *Tentative schedule based on a 4 hour day. |
Please Note:
We are a mini-museum. The foundation for our pedagogy is that your students work in small groups with our TCNJ college students. Therefore, we prefer to have no more than 50 students at a time in the tolerance museum. Every student participates; we do not talk at them.
If you have a larger group, please plan to come on consecutive days. For example, if you have 90 students, 50 might come on the first day, and 40 on the second. If you have more than 100 students, then three days. Kidsbridge is much, more than a field trip. It is a transformational journey for students, teachers and parents. Thank you.
In just three hours, we have measured statistically significant attitudinal improvements in: empathy, stereotype knowledge and aspiration to college. We strive to create Upstanders- youth who will stand up and speak out.
Parents are welcome as chaperones and are free. Consider asking your guidance counselor and/or principal to join you.
